On Sunday, June 7th, I captured a moving moment... it was a normal day in NYC when BLM protestors walked through my avenue... stopping, sitting, and observing a temporary pause; a brief silence for George Floyd. All different walks of life were present and it truly was a rare glimpse of what utter unity both looks and feels like. My family and I (as well as my neighbors in our building) came out on to our terraces to cheer; we couldn’t help it. This visual was so empowering, it was heartwarming, and ultimately a revitalizing force; a reminder that power is with the people and positive change IS in fact in the works. I took this photograph, to which I later saw that a RAINBOW was above the crowd. This was not photoshopped in any way, shape, or form! This was likely a lens flare; how the light from the lampposts down below hit my camera at that exact moment. I couldn’t believe my eyes and I was truly stunned. If this wasn’t a sign that a miracle would be coming our country’s way soon, then I have no other explanation. On a whim, I shared my photo.
Out of nowhere it went VIRAL thanks to John Krasinski’s Some Good News, Tank's Good News, Entertainment Tonight, Complex, CHNGE, E! News, BcG. Magazine & ONE37pm.
CHNGE reached out to me asking if they could sell prints of my image so that 100% OF THE PROFITS could go to organizations like Black Lives Matter, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Color Of Change, The Loveland Foundation, & the Equal Justice Initiative. Prints are available for purchase in support of this awesome initiative to reinforce change.
